Abstract Evolutionary of spatiotemporal chirped Laguerre complex-variable-function Gaussian (CLCG) wave packets in a strongly nonlocal nonlinear medium (SNNM) is investigated for the first time. Solution of the spatiotemporal CLCG wave packets in a SNNM is obtained by the separate variable method. Results demonstrate that the evolution properties of the targeted CLCG wave packets are dependent on the disparate distribution parameter and chirp parameter of the wave packets. The stabilities of the wave packets under different perturbation scenarios are further analyzed. In addition, the Poynting vector of the CLCG wave packets in propagation is investigated, and it shows that the direction of energy flow corresponds to the rotation of the wave packets. The effect of wave packet rotation on CLCG wave packet evolution is described. The gradient and scattering forces of the CLCG wave packet are also discussed. Finally, the nonlinearity of the CLCG wave packet and the energy transfer efficiency are discussed. Results obtained in this paper could provide a new idea for the modulation and control of multidimensional optical fields.
