Synthesis, structure and third-order nonlinear optical properties of a iodoargentate(I) cluster polymer of [(Et4N)(Ag2I3)]n

A polynuclear silver(I) cluster polymer [(Et 4 N)(Ag 2 I 3 )] n 1 with iodo-bridging ligands has been prepared by low-temperature solid-state reaction. Single crystal X-ray analyses reveal that compound 1 possesses a new type of one-dimensional (1-D) structure. The cluster anion of the title compound can be described as polymeric chain with [Ag 2 I 2 ] plane. This cluster polymer shows nice third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) absorption and refraction with absorption coefficient α 2 = 9.1×10 -11 m-w -1 and refractive index n 2 = -3.4× 10-17 m 2 ·w -1 in a 2.6×10 -4 mol·dm -3 DMF solution.
