Ytterbium mediated coupling of α-oxonitriles with allylbromides: convenient synthesis of β,γ-unsaturated ketones

A new and efficient method for the preparation of β,γ-unsaturated ketones has been achieved by the simple reaction of an acyl cyanide with allyl, crotyl and prenyl bromides and ytterbium metal in absolute tetrahydrofuran.
