The residence time distribution (RTD) of particle populations in a continuous two-stage fluidized bed apparatus and a continuous rectangular fluidized bed channel was investigated. The influence of different parameters like operating parameters, as well as technical and material-specific parameters on the RTD were examined. It was attempted to affect the residence time behaviour by material particle sizes, the internals of the plant (weirs) and its modifications (lengthwidth ratios). The modification on the weirs inside the plant was also investigated. In addition, system-relevant parameters such as particle mass flow rate and gas flow rate were varied. This paper gives an overview of the first results regarding the experimental study on influencing the residence time behaviour .
