The extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) is an important subtribe of the family of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs). The function of ERK is regulating cell differentiation. The activation of ERK is considered to be closely related with cell proliferation, differentiation, migration, invasion, apoptosis and malignant transformation. Studying and understanding the role of ERK1/2 in the formation of glioma provides guidance and strategies for the treatment of glioma. This review presents the progress of ERK1/2 and illustrates its relationship with gliomain.
