Synthesis and performance of new core-shell type vinyl acetate-acrylate emulsion

The core-shell type vinyl acetate-acrylate emulsion with high hydrophilic monomer content was synthesized by two steps method in this paper. In the first step, the hydrophilic initiator potassium persulfate was used to shape the core, then the hydrophobic initiator 2, 2'- azobisisobutyronitrile was used to shape the shell. At last, the particle morphologies and structure were determined, the properties of emulsion film were also tested. The results showed that using this method the obtained emulsion had low gel ratio, good stability and better mechanical properties.
