Careers in Cardiovascular Research Translational Research for Cardiovascular Diseases at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Moving From Bench to Bedside and From Bedside to Community

The plan outlines a cross-cuttingapproach that identifies areas in which the NHLBI is wellpositioned to make major contributions through investigator-initiated research and through programs that enable andsupplement investigator-initiated activities. Translational re-search—both from the bench to the bedside and from thebedside to the community—is strongly and specifically un-derscored throughout the plan. Here, we summarize NHLBIprograms and efforts in translational research. Funding op-portunities and early career advice for aspiring researchershave been presented previously in this series.
