摘要
ABSTRACT Since their discovery in 1965, scintillating plastic optical fibers have been used as radiation detectors in nuclear and high‐energy physics research. Here, a study on the development of micrometric plastic optical fibers (mPOF) to be used in active dosimeters with cell‐level resolution is presented. Three production methods are compared: electrospinning, melt‐electrospinning, and melt‐spinning. The analysis focuses on fiber morphology, diameter distribution, and optical properties to assess the suitability of each method for producing high‐quality mPOFs. mPOFs are produced with all methods, but only with melt‐spinning is it possible to achieve diameters of 10ths micrometer with good optical characteristics.
