Objective:The purpose of the present study was to study mechanical strength and degradation performance of chitosan barrier membrane.Method: Chitosan membrane was prepared for guided tissue regeneration. The tensile strength, tensile yield strength and tensile strain rate were measured with type 1195 electronic tensile apparatus, with expanded polytetrafluoroethylene membrane (e-PTFE) as control. The weight lose rate and molecular weight variety were measured also. Result: The tensile strength of fully sopped chitosan membrane reduced remarkably, while it's tensile strain rate increased remarkably. However, the tensile strength of fully sopped chitosan membrane was much more than the tensile strength of e-PTFE(p0.01). Chitosan membrane were degraded more rapidly with lysozyme. The weight lose rate was 30% at 30th day and at 40th day. At 60th day, chitosan membrane dissolved fully. Conclusion: From the point of view of mechanical strength and degradation performance, Chitosan membrane meet the requirements of guided tissue regeneration.
