OBJECTIVE To examine the effect of Qiju eye drops on the increasing lacrimal secretion and the repairing of corneal epithelial lesion of dry eye rabbit.METHODS The rabbit dry eye model was prepared by injecting atropine in lacrimal gland.The 20 rabbits were grouped into solution group,caromer eye drop group and Qiju eye drop groups of three different dosages.Solutions,0.2% carbomer eye drops and three dosages of Qiju eye drops(2,4 and 8 times per day)were diffused into both eyes.The schirmer values were measured before model preparing,after first injecting atropine and day 3,7 after treatment.The rats corneal epithelial lesion dry eye model was prepared by excising both lacrimal glands and diffusing 1% benzalkonium bromide solution into eyes.The 40 rats' eyes were grouped into solution group,carboxymethylcellulose sodium eye drop group and three dosages of Qiju eye drop groups.Eye drops of 0.5% carboxymethylcellulose sodium were diffused into both eyes in carboxymethylcellulose sodium eye drop group and other groups were same with rabbit model.Corneal fluorescence staining scoring values were examined on day 7,14 and 21 after treatment.RESULTS There were significant differences between carbomer eye drop group and solution group on day 3 after treatment(P0.05).The schirmer value increased in carbomer eye drop group.There were significant differences among high dosage and medium dosage Qiju eye drop groups with solution group on day 7 after treatment(P0.05).The schirmer value increased in high dosage and medium dosage Qiju eye drop groups.Corneal fluorescence staining scoring values of three dosages of Qiju eye drop groups were significant less than that of solution groups on day 14 after treatment(P0.05).Corneal fluorescence staining scoring values of three dosages of Qiju eye drop groups and carboxymethylcellulose sodium eye drop group were significant less than that of solution group on day 21 after treatment(P0.05).CONCLUSIONS Qiju eye drops could buffer low lacrimal secretion and lighten corneal epithelial lesion of experimental dry eye.
