The effects of activation conditions on the porous texture of activated char derived from Binxian coal using steam as activating agent on a batch fluidized bed were investigated in detail. The results were shown as follows: The micropore area and micropore volume are in direct proportion to activating temperature. The quantity of the surface basic site increases with activating temperature. The pores of the activated char prepared under 800~850℃ consist mainly of micropore. As the activating time increases, the surface area and pore volume all increase. The ratio of micropore volume to total volume decreases with the increase of activating time and keep constantly in 20~60min. As the activating time rising, the quantity of the surface basic site increases till 40min. Within the pore diameter of 0.5~1.0nm, the pore distribution transfers to finer pores with the increase of activating time. As the steam concentration in the activating agent rises, the surface area, pore volume and the quantity of surface basic sites of the activated char increase, but when above 30%, the increase of steam concentration has not only little effect on them, but also on the ratio of micropore volume to total volume and pore distribution.
