What Is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome?Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a disorder of hormonal imbalance.Polycystic ovary syndrome includes elevated male sex hormones (hyperandrogenism), failure of the ovaries to release eggs (ovulatory dysfunction), and ovaries that are enlarged, have fluid-filled sacs (polycystic ovaries), or both.The cause of PCOS is unknown and treatment is primarily based on management of symptoms.
