•Growth factors - hNGF, hEGF, FGf-b stimulate cell proliferation, viability and long-life of IgA1- IgA2 producing stable cell lines.•Combination growth factors and succinic acid improves metabolism of CHO cells.•Metabolic assays estimate the impact of lactate and ammonium on productivity IgA-based stable cell lines.•Low levels of metabolites increase the production of recombinant monoclonal antibodies IgA1-IgA2 sub-isotypes.
