Protection Effects of Buyang Huanwu Decoction on Cerebral Ischemia and Reperfusion Injures

Objective: To observe the effect of Buyang Huanwu Decoction on cerebral ischemia and reperfusion injuries in rats. Methods: 56 normal male SD rats were distributed randomly to 4 groups: ①sham-operation (P,n=14) ②control (C,n=14) ③Buyang Huanwu Decoction 1(B_1,n=14) ④Buyang Huanwu Decoction (B_2,n=14). Cerebral ischemia and reperfusion rat models were made using the method of thread inserting right middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). The change of neurologic deficits, infarct volume and brain water content were measured 48 hours after reperfusion. At the same time, pathological change was observed. Results: Buyang Huanwu Decoction 1 and 2 groups can decrease the neurologyic deficits (P0.05), relieve cerebral infarction volume (P0.05), (subtract brainedema P0.05), ameliorate the pathology. Constrasted Buyang Huanwu Decoction 1 with Buyang Huanwu Decoction 2, the effect of Buyang Huanwu Decoction 2 is better than Buyang Huanwu Decoction 1. But there is no statistic significance. Conclusion: All the results display the protective effects of Buyang Huanwu Decoction on cerebral ischemia and reperfusion injuries in rats.
