The Theory of Foregrounding and its Adaptability to Translation Practice

The article has pointed out that the research at present on foregrounding,a key term of functional stylistics,has mainly focused on its application within the same language.In order to help the translators to realize the important role that foregrounding plays in translation practice,this paper aims to make a study of the theory of foregrounding and its adaptability to translation practice by firstly making an account of the concept of the theory of foregrounding and secondly probing into the ways to identify the foregrounding language.The author has thus drawn a conclusion that the theory of foregrounding has a guiding value to English-Chinese translation because of its adaptability and feasibility.
