The thermal behavior of kaolinite intercalation complexes investigated at home and abroad was analyzed.It was concluded that the ditrigonal cavity has an important effect on the basal spacing of the intercalated complexes.In addition,the dehydroxylation temperatures of kaolinite intercalated with intercalator are lower than that of untreated kaolinite,which may be associated with the reduction of interacting force between the adjacent layers of kaolinite caused by intercalation action.Intercalation plays a significant role for the exfoliation of kaolinite.Research work is still needed for a better understanding for the mechanism of thermal decomposition of kaolinite intercalation complexes.
