The pollution of acid mine drainage(AMD) containing high concentration sulfate is a global problem.AMD containing sulfate can be biologically treated by sulfate-reducing bacteria(SRB).Under anaerobic condition,SRB use carbon source as electron donor,which reduce SO42-to S2-and realease alkalinity,the pH value of the wastewater is increased,meanwhile,S2-can be removed by means of physical chemistry or bio-chemistry.The characteristics of SRB and its growth conditions were summarized,the problems existing with the AMD treatment by SRB such as: selection of carbon source and reactor were specially analyzed,and the prospect of the technology of acid mine drainage biological treatment was also made.
