Effect of iron and nickel on microstructure of 2618 aluminum alloy before and after extrusion was investigated. The results show that when the contents of iron and nickel rise to 1.4% and 1.45% respectively, the casting microstructure contains large needle and flake Al 9FeNi phase, thus becoming big grain Al 9FeNi phase after extrusion. Increasing the contents of iron and nickel has little effect on the grain size of 2618 alloy after aging and decreases the room temperature mechanical properties of 2618 alloy, but improves elevated temperature properties.
