[EN] Waste tires have been valorized by pyrolysis using \na pilot scale facility with a nominal capacity of 150 \nkWth. More than 500 kg of shredded waste tires \nwere pyrolyzed at 550 ºC using a continuous auger \nreactor. The char fraction produced, herein named \npyrolytic carbon black (CBp) was characterized \nand submitted to different acidification/basification \ntreatments in order to obtain similar properties to \nthose of commercial carbon blacks. Elemental and \nproximate analyses, surface area and Hg porosimetry \nwere used to investigate the properties of the CBp. \nIt was observed that these treatments decreased \nthe concentration of inorganic compounds without \ndetriment of the textural properties. The ash content \ndecreased from 14.9 wt% up to 3.0 wt.%, by using \ncommercial and cheap reagents used in the chemical \nindustry. The CBp was compared with those of \ncommercial carbon blacks of the N300 series.
