Changes and clinical significance of neuron specific enolase in the children of epilepsy

Objective To investigate the change of neuron specific enolase(NSE) in epileptic children after seizure.Methods The levels of serum NSE in 27 patients within 72 hours after seizure were measured by enzyme-linked immunosandwich assay.Results The levels of serum NSE in the epileptic patients were much higher than that of the control group(P0.01).Conclusion NSE in serum could reach higher levels after seizure ,suggesting that neuronal damage may result from seizure.
