Corridorization: The spatial logics of coloniality and state capitalism

This paper considers the proliferation of development and other corridors, reviewing scholarship on a range of sites and mindful of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). In conceptualizing ‘corridorization’, the paper also traverses selected work on state capitalism. This is done in historical frames. Such historization invites considerations of how contemporary corridors variously resemble, rework and depart from prior imperial schemes. In so doing, the paper reflects how corridors embody and speak to spatialized conceptualizations of coloniality, indicating the dividends this pays for understanding the complexity of corridorization processes.
