Theoretical and methodological aspects of research on place attachment

This chapter provides a critical review of both the concepts and the assessment procedures that have been developed in research on the emotional links between humans and places, describing the variety of quantitative measurements of place attachment originated by conceptual diversity. For this purpose, the different methodologies used in research on place attachment are reviewed, with emphasis on the most recent proposals. The variety of quantitative measurement procedures is described, relating them to the underlying conceptual models, as well as the most frequently used statistical analyses. The chapter ends by highlighting some emerging lines of research.
