Travelling Concepts: Postcolonial Approaches to Exoticism and Diversity

This chapter discusses the relationship between exoticism and diversity. It also discusses a number of important theoretical issues that are able to underpin the more practical analyses of texts and the contexts that are discussed in the succeeding chapters. The chapter also discusses the shifts in 20th-century attitudes towards the concept of exoticism. The theoretical elaboration of exoticism and the contact between cultures emerging from travel practices are also included.
