A comparison of the 2022 Society for Vascular Surgery and the 2023 European Society for Vascular Surgery guidelines for the management of patients with asymptomatic and symptomatic carotid stenosis

In the last 2 years, both the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) and the European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS) released/updated their guidelines for the management of patients with extracranial cerebrovascular disease.1-3 The 2022 SVS Carotid Guidelines1,2 were an update of the 2011 SVS guidelines,4 whereas the 2023 ESVS guidelines3 updated the 2017 ESVS recommendations.5
