A method has been developed for the chromatographic determination of carbon in Al, Si, Y, and Pb oxides with a detection limit n x 10/sup -4/ wt.% and relative standard deviation of not more than 0.10 in the concentration range of 10/sup -1/ to 8 x 10/sup -3/ wt.%. The method is based on the conversion of carbon into CO/sub 2/ by arc discharge in an oxygen atmosphere, followed by its chromatographic determination.
