Owing to the thermal effect of optical pumping, the output parameters including the far-field beam divergence angle and the output power of high power solid-state lasers are variable. This paper discusses the dynamic characteristics of various stable resonator and critical resonator configurations. The moving rule of working point in the g*-parameter diagram, critical refractive power, critical g*-parameter, beam radius, and external far-field beam divergence angle are studied in detail using an equivalent g*-parameter resonator. Experimental verification of the theory and its applications are also discussed.
