The distribution of phthalic acid esters(PAEs) in Platanus hispanica leaf and its appendicle collected at several streets in Yangpu district, Shanghai city was analyzed. The results show that dibutyl phthalate(DBP) and di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate(DEHP),were found in both leaf and its appendicle. The Platanus hispanica leaf tended to absorb DBP that more occurred in gas phase with a higher mass/area ratio range than that in appendicle, while DEHP that mainly associated with aerosols in the atmosphere had higher mass/area ratio in appendicle. The mass/area ratios of PAEs in leaf and its appendicle were observed to be positively related to the motor vehicle fluxes of the streets.
