The determination of sorbic acid and benzoic acid as preservatives in beverages by capillary gas chromatography was studied. The method was featured by the good separation of sorbic acid and benzoic acid from the other components, the shortened time of analysis and the high accuracy of measurement. The upper limit for the determination of sorbic acid and benzoic acid was 0. 1 mg/kg, the relative standard deviation was less than 3% , and the indexed recovery ratio of samples 89%-99%.
