EFFECTS OF TREATMENT WITH COUPLING AGENTS ON MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF Mg_2(OH)_2SO_4 WHISKER FILLED UP RESIN CASTINGS

Four kinds of coupling agents NDZ101,NDZ401,KH550 and KH570 are used to treat Mg_2(OH)_2SO_4 whisker.Then,the effects of the treatment with coupling agents on the mechanical properties of Mg_2(OH)_2SO_4 whisker filled UP resin castings are studied and compared with those of pure UP resin castings.The typical stress-strain curves of the tests and SEM analysis of the impact fratured speciments are investigated.Results show that the mechanical properties including tensile strength,tensile modulus,flexural modulus and impact strength can be improved by treating the whisker with any kind of coupling agents.Among these properties the tensile strength can be increased by 47.54%,when the whisker is treated with KH570 by wt 2%.As for the tensile modulus,flexural modulus and impact strength,the best addition of NDZ101 is 3%,NDZ101 3% and KH550 4% respectively and properties can be accordingly increased by 65.99%,69.33% and 29.21%.But treating with coupling agents are not so good for the improvement of flexural strength as for other properties.When KH570 and KH550 are used by 4% and 5%,the greatest values of flexural strength,i.e 54.43MPa and 53.19MPa,are obtained.However,the flexural strength will be decreased when NDZ101 or NDZ401 is used.The breaks of both the pure UP resin casting and the casting after treatment by coupling agent are fragile.
