When BaCO370%-MnO25%-(Fe2O3+BaF2)25%(mass fraction) fluxes are used to desiliconize for blast furnace ferromanganese, the relations between the oxygen potential in ferromanganese melt and carbon activity as well as manganese loss (Δ) in melt are ×1012/Pa=35.812-0.106×aC and ×1012/Pa=6.238+0.679×(Δ) respectively. The results of desiliconization experiments show that the oxygen potential in ferromanganese melt is controlled by carbon-oxygen reaction in the melt. In order to desiliconize for ferromanganese and to prevent manganese from oxidation the oxygen potential in ferromanganese melt has to be controlled IMG SRC=IMAGE/01290007.JPG HEIGHT=11 WIDTH=11IMG SRC=IMAGE/01290008.JPG HEIGHT=11 WIDTH=11at or under 6.238×10-12 Pa .When the same fluxes as desiliconization are used to dephosphorize for blast furnace ferromanganese, the relations between the oxygen potential in ferromanganese melt and carbon activity, silicon activity as well as manganese loss (Δ)in melt are ×1012/Pa=-1.542+0.018×aC,×1012/Pa=-1.284+1.366×aSi and po2×1012/Pa=1.737+0.565×(Δ) respectively. The results of dephosphorization experiments show that the oxygen potential in ferromanganese melt is controlled by silicon-oxygen reaction in the melt. In order to dephosphorize for ferromanganese and to prevent manganese from oxidation the oxygen potential in ferromanganese melt has to be controlled at or under 1.737×10-12 Pa .
