Abstract Mechanisms and elementary acts of the photoreduction of benzophenones with triethylamine, N,N-diethyl-p-toluidine, N,N-dimethylaniline, phenols, and aniline are identified from the effects of induced dynamic nuclear polarization (CIDNP). Benzophenone is photoreduced in either two stages (electron and then proton transfer) or one stage (hydrogen atom transfer).
