The affecting factors, including the pressure and temperature in the furnace, the chemical composition of steel and the time of nitride addition, on the nitrogen content in the high nitrogen steel smelted by vacuum induction melting furnace were analyzed and discussed through smelting test in this paper. An empirical formula for nitrogen content prediction was obtained based on the above analysis. The results show that the chemical composition of the steel and the type of nitrides added have significant effect on the nitrogen content in the steel smelted by vacuum induction melting furnace.
