Objective: To investigate the effect of edaravone on the nerve function and activity of daily living in patients with acute cerebral infarction, and to improve the prognosis. Method: A total of 86 eligible patients were selected and randomly divided into observation group and control group, with 44 patients in the observation group and 42 patients in the control group. All the patients were given with conventional therapy for acute cerebral infarction, but the observation group were given with edaravone additionally, and the preand post-treatment effectiveness was evaluated according to activity of daily living scale( Barthel Index) and( America) national institutes of health stroke scale( NIHSS). Result: Before the treatment, the patients of the two groups had similar Barthel Index and NIHSS scores, and the differences were statistically insignificant( P0.05). On 7 days and 14 days after the treatment, the patients of both groups had increased Barthel Index scores and decreased NIHSS scores when compared with those before the treatments, but the patients of the observation group had greater improving extents, and the differences were statistically significant( P 0.05). Of the observation group,12 patients were basically cured,21 patients got significantly improved,8patients got slightly improved, and 3 patients were unresponsive to the treatment; while of the control group,8 patients were basically cured,14 patients got significantly improved,12 patients got slightly improved,and8 patients were unresponsive to the treatment; the difference was statistically significant( P 0.05). Conclusion: Edaravone can effectively lighten the neurologic impairment, elevate activities of daily living, and improve the prognosis in patients with acute cerebral infarction.
