Different Effects of Social Anxiety Disorder and Panic Disorder on Life Quality

Objective To compare different effects of social anxiety disorder and panic disorder on life quality. Methods The life quality of 35 patients with social anxiety disorder and 35 patients with panic disorder without significant comorbid psychiatric disorders was assessed with SF-36. Results Compared with the general populations in China by SF-36,the patients with social anxiety disorder had significantly severer impairment in social functioning and mental health subscales(P 0.05). But,the patients with panic disorder were significantly impaired in physical functioning,physical role and mental health(P 0.05). Conclusion The life quality in patients with social anxiety disorder without significant comorbid psychiatric disorders is significantly impaired in social functioning and mental health; while the patients with panic disorder suffer from both mental and physical impairment.
