As a clean energy, small hydropower had developed rapidly in recent years. However, the generation characteristics of runoff small hydropower units were poor and had less regulation ability. These factors affect the operation of the power grid. Through the analysis, it is found that the long time scale precipitation has a strong correlation with the small hydropower output. It is volatile in summer when the rainfall is abundant, but has weak correlation with temperature and wind. Small hydropower has the cumulative effect and the hysteresis effect. This paper provides a reference for the analysis of small hydropower generation and grid connected operation, to achieve the purpose of full utilization.
