摘要
The formation of riffles and pools in natural streams is a means of self‐adjustment that minimizes their time rate of potential energy expenditure per unit mass of water in accordance with the law of least time rate of energy expenditure. The actual formation of pools and riffles is a combined process of dispersion and sorting.
