Ultrathin sheets! The combination of the salt effect and an organic solution-phase method has been used to synthesize ultrathin rare earth oxide (RE2O3, RE=Gd, Ho, Y) nanosheets with controllable thickness in the sub-1 nm regime. Enhanced magnetization intensity has been observed at low temperature for colloidal Ho2O3 nanosheets, compared with bulk Gd2O3.
