Steel beams with open cross sections, such as H shape
or C shape, have small rigidities, by which their
torsional deformations for the given torsional moments
are comparatively large. This paper deals with the
torsional behavior of open section beams with
stiffeners which make the beam partially closed
section. Both St. Venant torsion and warping torsion
are investigated, for the open section, however,
warping torsion is neglected for the closed section
for simplification of theoretical analysis. The effects
of stiffeners could be understood in detail from this
investigation.
