Objective To study the adsorption of Ni2+ to xanthated chitosan.Methods The precise amount 0.1 g xanthated chitosan or chitosan was added into 50 ml Ni2+ solutions(250 mg/L),the adsorption capacity of xanthated chitosan or chitosan for Ni2+ was determined at different initial pH values of Ni2+ solutions(1-8),adsorption temperatures(20-45 ℃)and adsorption time(0-3 h).Results The maximal adsorption capacity could reach 110.9 mg/g under the optimal conditions(pH value:7,temperature:30 ℃,adsorption time:30 min),and could only reach 28.0 mg/g as the adsorption time was 2 h.Conclusion Xanthated chitosan is an efficient adsorbent for removal of Ni2+ from water.
