Excitation and charge transfer to the 2s and 2p states in H+-H collisions in the energy range 49 to 125 keV

A new method described by the authors (see ibid., vol.11, no.3, p.473, 1978) is applied to the computation of H + -H collision cross sections for both direct excitation and charge transfer to the states of the n=2 level. Comparison of the results with those obtained by Shakeshaft (1978) by a different but equally elaborate method leads to the probable conclusion that, at least for charge transfer, both sets of computations have achieved greater accuracy than has previously been possible. The present authors' direct excitation cross sections, when summed over the three accessible final states, agree to within 10% with measurements by Park et al.
