摘要
This study observed the swear words as shown by
\nthe writer's brother and his friends on Jalan
\nNgagel Timur, Surabaya.
\nThe data of this study which had been collected
\nby a tape recorder and a diary were transcribed
\nand analyzed under the parameters, namely: participants,
\ntime, place, topic, the way they do the conversation
\nand intonation.
\nBased on the data analyzed, it is found that
\nthe swear words mostly used by the writer’s brother
\nand his friends were (1) cuk (from diancuk),
\n(2) gendeng, (3) udelmu, (4) gathel, (5) jangkrik and
\n(6) edan.
\nThe main reasons why the writer's brother
\nand his friends uttered swear words when they were
\nhaving their conversations were (1) the participants are
\nmale, (2) the participants are close friends, (3) the
\nparticipants have strong solidarity, (4) the topics are
\neasy ones, (5) the settings are informal (6) the
\nparticipants want their conversation to go casually
\nand intimately, (7) to show annoyance, (8) to show
\namazement, (9) to show disagreement, (10) to show
\nsurprised and (11) to release the participants'
\nemotions.
\nThis study, the writer believes, is far from
\nperfect as there are likely several shortcomings in
\nterms of its scope, instruments, the procedures of
\nanalyzing the data and many others. Hence, it is suggested
\nthat future researcher will do better study than
\nthe writer and do prospective studies on swearing
\nwords with more sophisticated instruments and
\nprocedures of analyzing the data.
\nBesides, we all know that swear words obviously
\nshock and offend many people, that is why it is suggested
\nthat by analyzing the Swear words uttered by the
\nwriter's brother and his friends, the writer hopes
\nthat people do not have negative prejudice in
\nhearing Swear words.
