Electrolytic capacitors form an important part of
\nmost drive systems. This paper considers the effect of gamma
\nirradiation on the electrical properties of electrolytic capacitors.
\nTo achieve this, electrolytic capacitors with capacitances ranging
\nfrom 47 μF to 1000 μF are exposed to radiation levels ranging
\nfrom 0 to 910 kGy. Measurements of the capacitors’ capacitance
\nand equivalent series resistance are performed before and after
\nexposure to radiation to determine the effect on the electrical
\nproperties. It is seen that the irradiation primarily impacts the
\nequivalent series resistance, with some capacitors exhibiting as
\nmuch as a 60% increase
