2D imaging with a single-sided MPI device

A prototype of a single-sided magnetic particle imaging (MPI) scanner was presented by Sattel et al. in 2009. With this scanner, 1D images have been acquired [1]. For 2D imaging, it is necessary to modify the scanner and add D-shaped coils [2]. Also, in order to achieve an improved penetration depth, a higher power is dissipated, which requires the use of an oil cooling system. In this contribution, an improved 2D single-sided MPI device is presented and the first 2D images recorded with the presented scanner are shown.
