Weak chemiluminescence was produced during the oxidation of erythrosine by N-chlorosuccinimide in alkaline medium. The chemiluminescence signal was greatly enhanced in the presence of cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide.Based on these observations,a new flow injection chemiluminescence method was developed for the determination of erythrosine.Under the selected conditions, the concentration of erythrosine was linearly related to the chemiluminescence intensity in the range of 1.0×10-7~1.0×10-5 g/mL.The detection limit of the proposed method was 3×10-8 g/mL for erythrosine and the relative standard deviation was 3.7% for the 11 repeated determinations of 1.0×10-6 g/mL erythrosine solution. The method was applied to the determination of erythrosine in candies.
