Histopathologic study on the protective effect of Shenxiong Injection on cerebral ischemical reperfusion injury in rats

Objective To study the protective effect of Shenxiong injection on cerebral ischemical reperfusion injury in rats.Methods Sixty SD rats were randomly divided into 3 groups : sham-operated group(n=10),cerebral ischemia-reperfusion model group(n=25) and Shenxiong injection group(n=25).Temporary middle cerebral artery occlusion models were applied,the pathologic changes were studied by hematoxylin and eosin staining and Nissl staining,and the infarct volume was detected by TTC staining.The neuronal apoptosis was detected by the method of TUNEL.Results At 72 hours after reperfusion,hematoxylin and eosin staining showed notable necrotic change and neuron loss,and Nissl staining showed the swelling of neurons and the disappearance of Nissl bodies in the model group.Shenxiong injection could decrease the infarct volume(P0.05) and the number of apoptotic cell(P0.05).Conclusion Shenxiong injection could lessen cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury in rats.
