Background/aims: The quality of predictions of the course and rate of diffusional phase transformations in multicomponent alloys is critically dependent on the availability of proper thermodynamic and kinetic data; kinetic data are not generally available and data from different sources are quite often not mutually consistent. Thus, there is a need for assessment work in order to compile the data and render it useful. The present work was initiated as a part of a larger project to assess mobility data for the Cr-Fe-Ni alloy system. Method: Experimental diffusion data taken from the literature have been used. The modelling of the atomic mobility of an element in a multicomponent alloy has been done according to recent publications by the present author. Results and conclusions: The atomic mobilities of Cr and Fe in binary fcc Cr-Fe alloys and of Cr and Ni in binary fcc Cr-Ni alloys have been assessed as a function of temperature and composition by means of a Calphad type of procedure. Comparisons between calculations and experimental data are made. A fairly good description of the various experimental data has been found. Parameter values are presented.
