The nucleotide sequence of the cDNA consisting of 1 838bp which encoded the fusion (F) protein of the Chinese strain F_48E9 of newcastle disease virus (NDV) was obtained by fully automatic sequencing technique, and the encoded 549 amino acid polypeptide sequence deduced. Sequence analysis showed that there were 6 potential glycosylation sites and 13 cysteine residues in the amino acid sequence, and that the amino acid sequence of the cleavage site region was Arg-Arg-Gln-Arg-Arg-Phe. The deduced amino sequence of the fusion (F) protein of the Chinese strain F_48E_9 NDV was compared with published sequences of other NDV strains, and the homology was found to be 96.17%~92.16%.
