Inside Back Cover: Identification of Catalytic Sites for Oxygen Reduction in Metal/Nitrogen‐Doped Carbons with Encapsulated Metal Nanoparticles (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 4/2020)
Clarifying the catalytic sites of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) helps the design and preparation of highly effective non-precious metal catalysts. In their Research Article on page 1627, H.-W. Liang, X. Feng, and co-workers perform a low-temperature NH4Cl treatment that effectively removes encapsulated metallic nanoparticles from doped carbons. The thus improved ORR performance confirmed the spectator role of graphene-encapsulated nanoparticles and the pivotal role of metal-Nx sites in the metal-N-C materials for the ORR in acidic medium.
