Objective To study whether cyclic mechanical strain with varying waveforms have effects on the proliferation of human lung adenocarcinoma cell line A549. Methods Flexercell 4000 strain unit was used. Results In square wave group, the cellular relative proliferation rate reduced significantly compared with other groups after A549 cells were subjected to 15% elongation at frequency 30 cycles every min for 2 hours. Conclusion It indicates that square wave may be an optimal inhibitor for the proliferation of A549 cell lines.
