Semiconductor Physics: New aspects of deep levels in semiconductors

The formation of a Semiconductor Group within The Institute of Physics, belated though it was, reflected the large and increasing importance of the study of semiconductors and semiconductor devices in the UK. The property which makes semiconductors so important is, of course, the enormous change in electrical properties which can be brought about by the addition of a relatively small number of impurity atoms to the crystal.
